Colombia experienced a 0.8% decline in imports in April 2025, reaching USD 5.79 billion, thereby concluding a nine-month period of continuous growth and marking the first decrease since June 2024. This decline was predominantly attributed to a 1.7% reduction in imports of manufactured goods, amounting to USD 4.22 billion. This downturn was influenced by diminished purchases of chemicals, which fell by 8.3%, and materials for manufactured goods, which saw a 2.8% decrease. Additionally, imports in the fuel and extractive sector decreased slightly by 0.2% to USD 690.9 million, mainly due to a 3.9% decline in natural and manufactured gas imports. Conversely, imports in the agricultural, food, and beverage sector saw an increase of 3.4%, rising to USD 870.2 million. This growth was notably driven by a substantial 49.4% rise in imports of animal and vegetable oils and fats. The United States retained its position as Colombia’s leading trade partner in April, accounting for 26.7% of imports, followed closely by China at 25.7%, with Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Japan, and India also being significant partners.
